Lansdowne is one of Irelands premier tennis clubs. It is member owned and largely volunteer run. Getting here involves travelling to Londonbridge Road in Sandymount, Dublin 4, Ireland.
Lansdowne Tennis Club started as part of the world famous Rugby club, took a separate identity in the last century, and is believed to be one of the oldest tennis club in Ireland.
The club, while proud of its rich tradition, has a modern and competitive outlook & boasts the latest court technology and lighting systems available in the world today. The club is home to some of the best tennis teams in Dublin. (In the 1998 Summer League, the Premier team from both Ladies and Mens sections were finalists. About half the other teams made it to the play-offstages and in the last Winter League the vast majority of the teams qualified out of their sections, with 3 finalists and two Winners.)
The club hosts
a number of Open Tournaments, each year. In 1998, Lansdowne hosted
the ITF Dubler Cup, on the first visit to Ireland of the premier
over 45 mens team event. This was, in part, due to the excellent
facilities, viewing areas, and other amenities.
Visitors to the club are immediately struck by the club's warm, friendly atmosphere that welcomes visitors, members & their friends alike.
The members are have a well deserved reputation for friendliness and new members appreciate that we go out of our way to ensure they feel welcome and integrate well and quickly.
The
social scene in the club is excellent! It has to be, in a city
that has as many attractions as Dublin (a top European
tourist destination).
Although providing exclusively for the sport of tennis, there are other activities, like a very active golf society that tees off on the many marvellous courses in the Dublin area, a walking group that visits the Wicklow ("Garden of Ireland")mountains regularly, a very active bridge club, and much more.
And that's not all!...
